Many of the
photographs here were the first of my career and filled my
portfolio in the 60's.
An assistant's wages were low, but my boss JC made up for it by
allowing free film, paper and use of the studio. I made the most
of his generosity in the evenings when I would take shots for my
portfolio and for the model girls who came to see us.
After a couple of trips to Milan with JC I decided to stay there
shooting for Italian fashion magazines.
This website is
a tribute to the
wonderful 60's
when I had some
of the happiest
days of my life
as a photographer's
young assistant
in London.
I worked for
John Cowan, one
of the top fashion photographers.
of the time.
Clients included
Vogue, Queen,
and Harpers.
Locations
were from Devon
to Abu Dhabi.
The studio gained
fame in the 60's
when it was used
by Antonioni as
the location for
Blow Up, his
Cannes fesival
award winning film
starring David
Hemmings, Vanessa
Redgrave and
Sarah Miles.
